The UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) has released a report on the Sixty-seventh session which was held June 19–28, 2024.

The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research recently held a conference concerning space matters, including one on building “common understandings between stakeholders” when it comes to space security. A large theme of the panel was how much power commercial companies have these days, and the regulations that do (and do not) exist to manage their power.

A diplomatic effort led by the United Kingdom (UK) at the United Nations (UN) to take up a Kinetic Anti-Satellite (ASAT) Testing treaty has received international support through a Canadian Open Letter.

Earlier this year the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) held a Space Security Conference that included several Canadian voices and was co-organized by The Simons Foundation Canada.

Although it started with an objection, the 61st meeting of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) reaffirmed the role of the Committee as a unique venue where member States and Observers may inform, learn, express appreciation, voice concern and simply come together to discuss particular issues and raise aspirational bars regarding the exploration and use of space.

The international space community gathered from 18-21 June in Vienna, Austria to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first global Conference on the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNISPACE).
