CTV News Ottawa recently interviewed Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen while he was in Ottawa to speak at the Actua National Conference.

When astronaut Jeremy Hansen heads to the Moon as part of the Artemis II mission he will have two mission patches, the one created by NASA for the mission and his personal patch created by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). This past week his personal patch was unveiled and its design was influenced by Hansen’s decade long interactions with Indigenous communities.

The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) will celebrate its 100th anniversary on April 1 with a lot of news to report in astronaut missions as well. On Jan. 9, NASA announced it would be shifting the launch of Artemis II to September 2025. Artemis III — the first mission to land humans on the surface of the moon since 1972 — was moved to September 2026.

NASA has announced delays in the upcoming Artemis missions to the Moon. In an announcement on Tuesday, they said that both the Artemis II and Artemis III missions will be delayed, though the Artemis IV mission will remain on schedule.  This page is for subscribers only. Canadian astronaut Jenni Gibbons who will serve as backup for the Artemis 2 moon mission in 2024, recently spoke on Canada’s role in lunar exploration and her training at an online event hosted by Exploring by the Seat of Your Pants.

Earlier this year Jeremy Hansen was selected to be the first Canadian astronaut to participate in the Artemis program and was assigned to the Artemis 2 mission that will fly around the moon as early as late 2024.

Jeremy Hansen’s patience has paid off. After nearly 14 years as a Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut accumulating skills including managing teams like the 2017 astronaut class’ trainers, he will be aboard the Artemis 2 mission that is returning humans to the Moon’s area in November 2024 or so.
