Canada hasn’t had a National Space Policy since 1974. Currently the government is looking to announce a new Space Strategy this fall. Recently, the Space Advisory Board released its report after concluding consultations with stakeholders. On today’s show we’ll get insights on space policy from Graham Gibbs.

Today the government released the findings of the recently completed Space Advisory Board consultations on Canada’s upcoming new Space Strategy.  The Space Advisory Board report put forward two recommendations  based on six key themes.

On Friday, July 28 Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Minister Navdeep Bains met with the Space Advisory Board to discuss the results of the recent space strategy consultations.

Canada’s new space strategy will not be unveiled this month as previously expected, but will be delayed until later this summer or early fall, multiple sources tell SpaceQ.

The Space Advisory Board consultation with stakeholders and the public on a future Canadian Space Strategy have come to an end and now a small subgroup of the Board is focused on writing a report to be submitted to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada sometime next week.

Innovation, Science and Economic Development has posted a new website for the new Space Advisory Board (SAB). It includes the consultation paper we previously published and the cities and dates the SAB will be visiting over the course of the next month. They are listed below. 

On Tuesday the government announced the new Space Advisory Board and sent out invitations to selected people from the space community to attend the first Space Advisory Board Ottawa Roundtable on Canada’s Future in Space this Friday afternoon. SpaceQ sources who were contacted to attend were none too pleased about the short notice on such an important topic.

The Liberal government this evening announced the ten people selected to serve on Canada’s latest edition of a Space Advisory Board. The new Board has already met once, last Thursday, and is getting ready to start a cross-Canada consultation process which start this Friday in Ottawa.

Today, Canada’s new Space Advisory Board will meet for the first time and a government dedicated to being open and transparent should follow NASA’s example, and make most Board meetings open to the public, either in person or by teleconference.
