A team of students from Concordia University won the third Canadian Satellite Design Challenge (CSDC), the second time a team from Concordia has won the competition. The competition wrapped up just over a week ago at the Canadian Space Agency’s (CSA) David Florida Laboratory in Ottawa. Space Concordia, as they are known, also won the inaugural challenge in 2012.

This past Friday the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario) announced at the headquarters of COM DEV International that the government had selected 21 companies and 38 research and development projects to fund as part of the Canadian Space Agency’s (CSA) Space Technology Development Program (STDP).

UrtheCast which has camera’s based on the International Space Station for space-based Earth Observation images and video has begun releasing “First Light” images including this image over Manitoba.

UrtheCast Corp. announces that on Dec. 27, 2013, its two Earth observation cameras were installed as planned on the outside of the International Space Station (ISS). However, Mission Controllers were unable to confirm that the cameras were receiving power from the ISS.

MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. has signed a contract for $4.2 million with Earth Video Camera Inc., (operating as UrtheCast), to provide them with information solutions to be incorporated into two high-definition video cameras to be installed on the International Space Station in late 2012.
