Russian Soyuz Launches with COM DEV exactView-1 Satellite

A Russian Soyuz-FG vehicle launched early Sunday morning from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan with five satellites onboard including COM DEV’s ExactView-1 as a secondary payload. Other satellites included the primary payloads of the Russian satellite KANOPUS-V1 (Canopus-B) and Belarusian BKA satellite and other secondary payloads MKA-PN1 from Russia and German TET-1.

The Canadian Space Agency and NASA Test Lunar Technologies

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) has been invited by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to test technologies and concepts for lunar exploration. The joint nine-day field test takes place starting this week in a volcanic area near Hilo, Hawaii. A Canadian built rover will test procedures which may ultimately prove that water can be obtained from lunar soil.

MDA Acquires Space Systems Loral in Blockbuster Deal (Updated)

In what can only be described as a blockbuster deal, MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd (MDA) announced late today that it has acquired a larger company in Space Systems/Loral (SS/L). The announcement comes a day before the MDA’s scheduled investor call and a day after they had announced a significant deal to provide the communications payload for the AMOS-6 Satellite.

NAV CANADA and Iridium Announce new Joint Mega Hosted Payload Venture: Aireon

NAV CANADA and Iridium today announced a new joint venture to be run under the company Aireon LLC with support from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and suppliers Harris Corporation and ITT Exelis. The new company takes advantage of Iridium’s NEXT hosted payload capability and will deliver surveillance capability to Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) around the world and their commercial airline customers.
