Controlled Fire in Alberta as Seen from Space

This photo was taken by Canadian astronaut Bob Thirsk from the International Space Station and shows smoke plumes caused by controlled fires set in the mountains near Canmore, Alberta.

The Alberta Health Services has issued a precautionary smoke advisory for Bragg Creek, Canmore, Springbank, Cochrane and Calgary as strong winds are pushing the smoke towards these areas.
A high resolution image is available from the Canadian Space Agency web site.
