On Flight Day 5 of the Artemis 2 mission, the crew marked a significant Canadian space milestone as Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut Jeremy Hansen was presented with his gold astronaut pin by his crewmates, officially recognizing his first spaceflight.
Communications for the day were notably guided from Houston by CAPCOM (Capsule Communicator) Jenny Gibbons, also a CSA astronaut and the Artemis 2 backup. Alongside receiving well-wishes from Apollo 16 astronaut Charlie Duke and sharing Easter greetings, the crew focused on crucial operational tests. This included a successful demonstration of the Orion Crew Survival System (OCCS) suits under lowered cabin pressure, as well as visual observations of lunar topography.
The day concluded with the successful execution of a 19-second Outbound Trajectory Correction (OTC-3) burn using Orion’s auxiliary engines, perfectly aligning the spacecraft for its highly anticipated lunar flyby on Flight Day 6.
