India Launches ASTROSAT Observatory with Canadian Contribution and exactEarth Satellite

India’s space agency, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), today launched India’s first dedicated astronomy observatory, ASTROSAT. Canada contributed to one of the science payloads, the Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (UVIT). Also launched on India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C30) was exactEarth’s exactView-9 (EV9) Automatic Identification System (AIS) satellite.

Russian Soyuz Launches with COM DEV exactView-1 Satellite

A Russian Soyuz-FG vehicle launched early Sunday morning from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan with five satellites onboard including COM DEV’s ExactView-1 as a secondary payload. Other satellites included the primary payloads of the Russian satellite KANOPUS-V1 (Canopus-B) and Belarusian BKA satellite and other secondary payloads MKA-PN1 from Russia and German TET-1.

COM DEV Bucks Canadian Space Sector Trend

It’s been a pretty good start to the year for COM DEV, the Cambridge based international space systems company. On April 12th the company reported improved profitability in its quarterly earnings report. Since then they’ve booked three new orders worth US $21 million including a new order today.
