Canada in Space

SpaceQ has confirmed from an Innovation, Science and Economic Development department official that the long awaited new Canadian Space Strategy will be released this week.

The announcement will be made by ISED Minister Bains likely this Wednesday in Edmonton. The focus of the strategy will centre around last weeks announcement that Canada was spending $2.05B over 24 years on the Lunar Gateway program along with supporting innovation projects of small businesses.

The document, which a source tells SpaceQ will be somewhere between 20-50 pages in length, will also discuss cover the governments other recent investments in the space program including committing Canadian involvement in the International Space Station until 2024.

The Space Strategy will also discuss other areas of the space program that haven’t been addressed. No details are available at this time about whether there will be any new funding for other programs. The 2019 budget will be released on March 19.

More details as they become available.
