Deadline Reminder – Trio of Student Opportunities from the Canadian Space Agency

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) posted on its X feed a reminder that there are three student opportunities available that have upcoming deadlines.

All three opportunities were posted just before the holidays in December, so some students might have missed them. The opportunities include:

Internships: Summer 2024 Indigenous Student Cohort

Term: Summer 2024
Location: Longueuil, Ottawa, Gatineau, Remote
Requirements:

  • Registered as a full-time student in a post-secondary accredited academic institution
  • Meet the minimum age requirement in the province or territory of work

Introduction: “To build and maintain a more inclusive and innovative space sector, we need the creativity and ingenuity that stem from having a wider diversity of talents and perspectives. The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is taking action towards reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples by taking meaningful steps to increase Indigenous voices at the CSA and within the Canadian space sector. As part of this effort, the CSA is launching this targeted recruitment campaign for the summer 2024 session.”

Canadian Student Participation in the 45th Committee on Space Research Scientific Assembly (COSPAR 2024)

Dates of COSPAR 2024: July 13 to 21, 2024
Location: Busan, South Korea
Number of grant recipients: 10
Maximum funding from CSA: $5,000/grant recipient
Application deadline: March 1, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. (ET)

Introduction: “This year, the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) will award grants to students who will participate in the 45th Committee on Space Research Scientific Assembly (COSPAR 2024) to be hosted in Busan, South Korea from July 13 to 21, 2024.”

“COSPAR’s objective is to promote scientific research in space on an international level, with emphasis on the exchange of results, information and opinions. In addition, COSPAR aims to provide a forum, open to all scientists, for the discussion of problems that may affect scientific space research.”

“As part of its commitment to support the development of the next generation of space professionals in Canada, the CSA invites university students (master’s and doctoral levels) to apply for a grant to participate in this assembly.”

Canadian Student Participation in the 75th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2024)

Dates of IAC 2024 and related activities: October 14 to 18, 2024 (October 10 to 18, 2024 for those selected to participate in the Space Generation Congress [SGC])
Location: Milan, Italy
Number of grant recipients: Approximately 14
Maximum funding from the CSA: A maximum of $4,200/grant recipient and the possibility of an additional $950 for those who will also be selected to participate in the Space Generation Congress (SGC)
Application deadline: May 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. (ET)

Introduction: “This year, the CSA will once again award grants to students who will be participating in the 75th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2024) and in the activities organized by the International Space Education Board (ISEB), both to be hosted in Milan, Italy from October 14 to 18, 2024.”

“IAC 2024 is the International Astronautical Federation’s (IAF) global space event representing an excellent gathering venue for all specialists within the space sector. As part of its commitment to support the development of the next generation of space professionals in Canada, the CSA invites Canadian post-secondary students to apply for a grant to participate in the congress.”

“In addition to attending IAC and participating in ISEB-coordinated activities, some of the selected applicants may also be invited to participate in the Space Generation Congress (SGC 2024), which will be hosted in Milan from October 10 to 12, 2024. This congress is organized by the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC), a non-profit organization developing networks amongst university students, young space professionals, and alumni in the space industry in support of the United Nations Program on Space Applications. The number of students who will be offered the opportunity to participate in the SGC 2024 is subject to the number of seats allocated by the SGAC.”

“Applicants who are selected to receive a grant under this AO may also be offered internships or short-term employment opportunities within the CSA following their participation at IAC 2024.”
