Something unusual happened at the 37th Space Symposium Head of Agency Panel. In responding to the moderators last question on what is one thing about your space agency that most people don’t know?, Canadian Space Agency President Lisa Campbell answered with something most people wouldn’t be aware of, a new Canadian Space Hub.
Specifically, this was the answer by Miss Campbell to the question;
“We’re building a space hub at our headquarters in Montreal, please come and check it out. We’re going to be bringing in companies and scientists to have access to regular and predictable launch opportunities, access to science missions, technology demonstration and development. Our goal is to fly early, fly often and grow our space network in Canada and develop the next generation. We’re also going to advance our four priority areas, space for climate, advancing Canada’s expertise in robotics, deep space food and deep space health.”
SpaceQ reached to the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) to learn more about this new Canadian Space Hub.
In an email, a CSA media representative said “the objective/vision of the Canadian Space Hub is the start of a new culture of innovation and agility at the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). It is about rethinking the CSA business model and redefining its role in the commercial space market to add value in the Canadian space sector. Itโs about leveraging lessons learned through successful initiatives and putting forward new initiatives and pilot projects to test, learn and adapt.”
“The CSA wants to help the Canadian space sector grow through easier access to funding opportunities, expertise, services networks, development and launch opportunities. We hope this client-focused approach will nurture and catapult enterprising technologies, science and companies.”
The representative further stated that more details would be available, though they could not say when. To note, last weeks government budget didn’t contain any additional details on this new initiative.
