Calian Group will help train the British Army for another 15 years under a contract worth about $20 million a year, or $296 million in total, the Ottawa headquartered company announced Tuesday.
Calian’s agreement is with Raytheon UK, the consortium lead. Britain’s Ministry of Defence awarded the Army Collective Training Service, worth about $3.7 billion (£2 billion), to a Raytheon-led group called Omnia Training on July 10. Calian sits below that as a subcontractor rather than one of the five named partners, Capita, Cervus, Rheinmetall UK and Skyral.
Against Calian’s own books the contract is steadier than it is large. Revenue was $774 million in the year to September, so the new work represents about one fortieth of annual sales, though it is contracted for 15 years, which most of the rest is not.
It is a continuation rather than a new line of business. The work begins in October 2026, when Calian’s current British Army training contract, Project NUMIDIAN, ends. The company has delivered collective training, the field exercises that put soldiers, commanders and allied units through realistic operations before they deploy, to the British Army for years.
“Military readiness begins long before a mission starts; it begins with training that prepares troops to operate with confidence in complex, high-pressure environments,” Chris Pogue, president of Calian’s defence and space division, said in the release.
Calian describes the work as preparing forces for “multi-domain” operations — the military term for fighting across land, sea, air, cyber and space at once — and the company has spent the past year building out the space and connectivity side of the same division, buying Galaxy Broadband in June and launching a sovereign C5ISRT initiative in January.
Calian reports third-quarter results on Thursday.
August 13, 2026 – Editor’s note: On Calian’s third-quarter earnings call, chief executive Patrick Houston said a variable component could roughly double the contract’s $296 million base over the 15 years. Asked by Nicholas Boychuk of ATB Capital Markets whether that amounted to a doubling, he answered, “Correct.”
