Calian Group Ltd. has agreed to buy network provider Galaxy Broadband Communications for up to $51.5 million. The deal starts with a $24 million upfront payment to current owner Crown Capital Partners Inc. Calian could pay an additional $27.5 million over three years if specific business targets are met. Pending standard financial and regulatory approvals, the purchase is expected to close by the end of September 2026.
Galaxy Broadband operates as a managed service provider for remote connectivity. The company deploys and manages satellite networks for institutional and commercial clients operating in isolated environments. Establishing this type of field infrastructure requires significant specialized personnel and localized equipment. By purchasing Galaxy, Calian immediately acquires the necessary physical hardware, active customer contracts, and field technicians to maintain connectivity in northern regions. Current owner Crown Capital plans to use the net proceeds from the sale to repay its existing corporate debts and senior credit facilities.

In northern and isolated regions, these satellite networks serve as critical infrastructure for public safety and national security. First responders rely on satellite systems during environmental emergencies or remote operations when traditional terrestrial cellular networks drop. Similarly, the defence sector requires highly secure, encrypted connections to maintain communications and monitor Canada’s large territorial borders.
The transaction combines Calian’s high-level space technology engineering with Galaxy’s ground-level service delivery model. Integrating Galaxy into Calian’s operations creates a single, end-to-end network package. This structural combination ensures that critical infrastructure operators, healthcare facilities, and government teams working in Canada’s most isolated areas remain securely connected without relying on fragmented third-party service providers.
