David Saint-Jacques Talks About Why he Included Indigenous People and Culture on his Mission

Astronaut David-Saint Jacques was asked by Mi’kmaw artist Shanna Francis why he included Indigenous people and culture on his mission. The answer is worth hearing and goes to the heart of who David Saint-Jacques is.

David-Saint Jacques mission onboard the International Space Station is a culmination of a lifetime of work and experience. Working with Indigenous people in northern Quebec, and what he learned, is one of the reasons he decided to include Indigenous people and culture on his mission.

The Dal News, a publication of Dalhousie University, has a complete story on the event that was to have included 525 junior high students of Indigenous and African Nova Scotian heritage. However a winter storm reduced the size of the audience. Regardless, it was a success, and was broadcast live so those who couldn’t make could still tune in.
