Maritime Launch Services (MLS) announced August 21 that it had signed on Voyager Space as “the first Owner Authorized Representative” for Spaceport Nova Scotia.
According to MLS, Voyager will be active in the next phase of development, that being, building out the launch support infrastructure for Spaceport Nova Scotia.
Specifically, MLS said “Voyager, through its Exploration Segment, will provide comprehensive engineering, design and fabrication support to Maritime Launch.” MSL added that “Voyager will bring its decades of commercial spaceflight engineering, manufacturing, and operations capabilities to provide engineering design and development and buildup of select portions of the launch site on behalf of Maritime Launch. Voyager will work alongside Maritime Launch to analyze launch client requirements and integrate them into the current site layout.”
This is not a new relationship. On November 21, 2022 MLS announced that Nanoracks would be their first customer. Nanoracks is a Voyager company they acquired in May of that year.
At the time MLS said Nanoracks would be their first customer and will provide payload services. Those services will include deploying small satellites and hosting “spacecraft technology demonstrations.” The value of the Nanoracks contract reported at the was US$45 million. A lot has happened since then, including MLS dealing with a variety of issues that have delayed their plans. However, the relationship with Voyager has been long standing and the company believed MLS would eventually reach a point that would allow the two companies to work together.
The Technology Safeguards Agreement that has been substantially agreed to between Canada and the United States was the catalysts to allow the companies to move forward.
