NASA’s newest generation of rover will touch down on Mars on Thursday (Feb. 18) if all goes to plan, virtually bringing hundreds of experts to the Red Planet’s surface as well.

Mars was likely a cold and glaciated planet early in its history, a new Canadian-led study suggests, which has implications for the ongoing search for life on the Red Planet.

In late 2016 the Canadian Space Agency convened a Space Exploration Workshop. It wasn’t the regular workshop convened every few years. This one had a goal of producing a Science and Space Health Priorities plan for the next decade.

Inspired by the Canadian Satellite Design Challenge in 2010, a group of students formed what would become the AlbertaSat group. They would eventually design, build and see launched, the first satellite from Alberta. It’s a story and experience worth discussing.

Alberta’s first satellite Ex-Alta 1 was launched to the International Space Station (ISS) on April 18 on a cargo resupply spacecraft and on May 26 it was successfully deployed from the ISS.

Next Monday, a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas 5 rocket is scheduled to launch from Space Launch Complex 41 (SLC-41) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida with the Orbital ATK Cygnus spacecraft on a cargo resupply mission to the International Space Station (ISS) for NASA.
