NASA has released a detailed flyby video of the Lunar Gateway, a key part of the Artemis program. The 2 minute visualization gives a you a good sense of he elements that make up the Gateway, including Canada’s contribution, the Canadarm3.

The Government of Canada today awarded MDA Space a $999.8M contract for Phase C, the final design, and Phase D for construction, system assembly, integration and testing of the Canadarm3 robotics system.

The Canadian Space Agency has announced over $1.7 million in new funding for concept studies related to scientific research that may be performed on the Artemis Program’s Lunar Gateway station. This follows a Request for Proposals in December of 2022.

The last time SpaceQ caught up with David Saint-Jacques in March 2022 — the only flown astronaut on the Canadian Space Agency’s (CSA) four-person active roster — he was using his training as a medical doctor to aid with COVID-19 care in Montreal, in addition to his CSA/NASA duties.

The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, paid a visit to MDA’s headquarters in Brampton on Wednesday, August 17 to tour the facilities which includes R&D for the Canadarm3.

MDA has completed the first sale of Canadarm3 technology which will be used on the Axiom Space commercial space station.

David Saint-Jacques is a medical doctor, engineer and astrophysicist who is Canada's only flown current astronaut. It’s a contract everyone knew was coming, but the $268.9 million Canadarm3 Phase B awarded to MDA by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is a major milestone for the current Canadian space program. To put it into context, in the CSA’s fiscal year 2020/21 they spent $272 million on programs excluding internal services.

CubeSat testing is already being planned this year for NASA's planned Gateway space station near the Moon, according to conference presentations at the virtual Small Satellite Conference this week.
