In response to its smartEarth initiative, the Canadian Space Agency has awarded contributions totalling over $4.2 million to 16 companies in response to its Bridging the Information Gap with Space-Based Analytics request for proposals announced in January of this year.

smartEarth is the agencyโ€™s “renewed funding initiative related to Earth observation applications development. It fosters a smart use of satellite data to develop solutions to key challenges on Earth and in our everyday lives.” In other words it wants to find practical benefits for Canadians from all of the data being generated from current and future Earth observation data it has access to.
