The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) has announced that Toronto will host the 65th International Astronautical Congress in 2014. This is a coup for Canada and comes at a time when the space sector is at a significant crossroads.

The IAF said that voting was completed by March 30th and that Canada had beat out bids from Adelaide, Istanbul, and Jerusalem.
This is the 3rd time Canada will host the International Astronautical Congress which attracts up to 3500 registrants globally. Canada previously hosted the IAF in 1991 in Montreal and 2004 in Vancouver.
The bid was originally put together by the Canadian Space Society who then collaborated with the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute to facilite a successful bid.
Naples, Italy is hosting the International Astronautical Congress this year while Beijing will host the event next year.
