MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (MDA) released a new geospatial product yesterday, the National Urban Change Indicator. Initially targeted at the U.S. market the product will cover the lower 48 U.S. States.

The first customers to purchase a license are the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The product uses satellite imagery to show if and when an area has undergone a human-induced change sometime in the last 25 years. These changes are generally new or changed construction.
The new product was created using MDA’s Correlated Land Change proprietary process developed over the last three years.
