After yesterday’s announcement that veteran Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield would be flying on a six month long flight and serve as Commander of the International Space Station Hadfield’s sons promptly helped him setup a Twitter account and Facebook page, a first for a Canadian astronaut.
This is an unusual step for a Canadian astronaut as the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) has not yet embraced social media and has no social media policy in place. When contacted today by SpaceRef, a CSA media representative indicated a social media policy was still being studied.
Let’s hope this opens the social media flood gates for the CSA. @Astro_Mike, @Astro_Soichi, @flyingjenny, @marsroverdriver and many, many others have brought NASA’s adventures down to Earth. We need that same inspiration here, north of the 49th.
I can’t wait to hear what @Astro_Jeremy and @Astro_David are up to.
