Ookla has posted its 2025 Global Satellite Broadband Performance Report which outlines Starlink’s dominance and shows that Canada is a top 5 market.

The digital divide is no longer just about who has internet, but how they get it. Ooklaโ€™s 2025 report confirms that for millions of people, the fastest path to high-speed broadband is no longer a cable in the ground, but a constellation in the sky.

The other top markets were the U.S., as expected, followed by Mexico, Indonesia, Brazil and then Canada.

It’s also clear that Canadians are choosing to use Starlink in growing numbers. By mid-2025 over 500,000 Canadians had signed up for the service.

Ookla data also indicates that download and upload speeds which decreased between 2021 to 2023 has now begun to sharply improve.

Eutelsat OneWeb and Viasat have some share of the market in Canada but it is less than 3%. However, other players entering the market soon including Amazon LEO and Telesat’s Lightspeed will chip away at Starlink’s near monopoly, though in the case of Lightspeed the service isn’t geared to consumers.
