It took much longer than expected but today Telesat announced it had completed $2.54 billion funding agreements with the Government of Canada and Quebec meaning the company has all the financing in place for the Lightspeed low Earth Orbit satellite constellation.

The Calian Group Ltd. announced September 9, 2024 that it had been selected by Telesat to design, develop, deliver and deploy the Element Management System (EMS) for the Telesat Lightspeed satellite constellation.

Beyond Gravity, a Swiss space industry supplier, has been selected by MDA Space as part of its supply chain for MDA Aurora, the companies software-defined digital satellite product line. 

Telesat will have news “in the next couple of weeks,” or shortly afterwards, on government funding for the Lightspeed constellation that is still slated to launch in 2026 following delays.
