The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) has issued a Request for Proposals for ground segment concept studies in support of Canada’s next-generation synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite system, RADARSAT+.

The CSA states that “The objective is to gather propositions for a modern ground segment concept, capable of supporting Canadaโ€™s next-generation satellite system and its technical requirements, along with a development and implementation plan. The work also includes identifying key technologies to be integrated into the ground segment, assessing their maturity, related risks, and strategies to mitigate them, to ensure the missionโ€™s success.

In 2023 the government announced $1.012 billion initiative to continue Canada’s expertise in synthetic aperture radar satellites and support the countries Earth observationย (EO) needs.

The funding is going towards the design and develop of a replenishment satellite for the current RADARSAT Constellation Missionย (RCM) which is comprised of three satellites. As well, funding was allocated to the design for a next-generation SAR satellite system as follow-on for the agingย RCM.

In October 2025 the CSA issued a tender for concept studies for the next-generation SAR satellite system.

In December 2025 The CSA issued MDA Space a contract “to procure and deliver critical long lead parts in support of the RADARSAT Constellation Mission (RCM) replenishment satellite development.”

The closing date for proposals is March 24, 2026.
