The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) posted a tender for a Next Generation SAR Satellite System concept study for the second time within five months.
The Request for Proposals is for the “development of concept studies related to its next-generation synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite system.” The CSA states that up to three contracts will be awarded under this solicitation. In the June solicitation the CSA stated it would award two contracts. No contracts have been publicly announced for the first solicitation.
The Next Generation SAR Satellite System is meant to follow the RADARSAT Constellation Mission (RCM), a trio of satellites launched in 2019 and which have a design life that was to end in 2026. Assuming the RCM satellites stay healthy, the mission could be extended.
The scope of work is also the same as the previous solicitation and is divided into two primary activities.
“First, it involves investigating alternatives for a sustainable space architecture that supports long-term sustainability; enables a rapid innovation cycle; and facilitates the development, implementation, operation, renewal, and upgrade of a next-generation satellite system. Second, it includes formulating the mission concept and mission requirements, which entails identifying key technology developments needed to support the mission.”
The closing date is November 7, 2025, 2:00 PM EST.
