NordSpace, one of the companies looking to be perform the first orbital launch from Canadian soil, has announced initial details of its 2nd Canadian Space Launch Conference (CLSC).

The one day CLSC will be held again at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa on May 5th.

In making the announcement NordSpace said capacity for the event will be increased to host up to 400 attendees. As well, there will be a dedicated technical content track.

The theme for the 2026 event is Building a Spacefaring Nation. The theme last year could have been Who are These People?, as the demographic skewed to the younger side with one industry veteran commenting to this author that they hardly recognized anyone at the conference.

It was good to see a young and clearly motivated audience at the first event. Part of that can be credited to programs such as the Canadian Space Agency’s Canadian CubeSat Project, the follow-on CUBICS, the Canadian Satellite Design Challenge, and in particular the Launch Canada Challenge, which have all inspired a generation of students to get involved.

Now that the Canadian government has made the decision to pursue sovereign launch capability and the Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) has launched the ‘Launch the North’ IDEaS Challenge, next years event should be quite different and more broadly attended. Registration is open.
