MDA Space has been added as a contractor for the U.S. Missile Defense Agency for the Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defenseย (SHIELD) program.
The Missile Defense Agency SHIELD program is part of the broader Golden Dome missile defence strategy.
The SHIELD program has a total ceiling value of USD $151 billion over 10 years. MDA Space was awarded a Multiple Award Indefinite-Delivery, Indefinite-Quantity (IDIQ) contract meaning it’s now eligible to compete for future task orders.
SHIELD is designed to integrate land, sea, air, space, and cyber domains into a single defensive ecosystem. The scope of the work is massive. Some of the focus areas include: Advanced R&D โ Prototyping disruptive technologies and “left-of-launch” capabilities; Digital Engineering โ Utilizing AI, Machine Learning (AI/ML), and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to simulate threats and test defenses virtually before building hardware; Cybersecurity โ Hardening defense networks against cyber-attacks and hybrid threats; and System Integration โ Ensuring different weapon systems communicate seamlessly via open system architectures.
