Late Friday, June 7, MDA Space announced that they had ratified a collective agreement with CSN union members at their facility in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue.

The strike by Unifor Local 112 and 673 at MDA Space’s Brampton location is over after striking workers ratified a new agreement.

MDA Space will be making a major change to their upcoming MDA CHORUS satellite constellation adding a vessel detection onboard processing system (VDOP). The system will give the constellation the ability to both track and identify vessels on the satellite itself, then “rapidly deliver geointelligence data and information direct to users at sea.” 

At this years annual CANSEC industry event which started today, the Department of National Defence, Royal Canadian Air Force, and commercial partners MDA Space and Telesat, announced the establishment of the Commercial Integration Cell (CIC).

MDA Space announced a bold move today, joining Starlab Space LLC as a partner and equity owner as Starlab strives to build a next-generation commercial space station.

MDA Space and Unifor have agreed to return to the bargaining table on May 22, 2024, according to a May 21, 2024 email sent to SpaceQ by Unifor National Communications Representative David Molenhuis. According to the union, about 50 Unifor Local 112 and 673 members have been on strike at the company’s headquarters in Brampton, Ontario since April 9th.

MDA Space, the newly rebranded MDA, reported strong Q1 2024 results on the back of the Telesat Lightspeed constellation announced in late 2023, along with new contracts.

The Canadian Space Agency has extended the International Space Station robotics operations support contract for MDA Space for another five years. The contract extension is for the period between 2025 – 2030, and the value of the contract is $250 million.

NASA has released the Source Selection Statement for the Lunar Terrain Vehicle Services contract that provides details including costs and evaluation scores on the three companies selected, Intuitive Machines, Venturi Astrolab and Lunar Outpost. MDA is a team member of the Lunar Outpost proposal.

Today at the 39th Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, MDA Space announced a new product line, MDA SKYMAKER which builds on the heritage of their space robotics products including the venerable Canadarm. The new product line consists of a “new suite of space robotics products and services.”
