The Canadian Space Agency issued the expected Space Technology Development Program Industrial Capability – Building Contributions announcement of opportunity (AO) today. 

The Canadian Space Commerce Association has issued a Call for Papers for the 2017 Canadian SmallSat Symposium. The symposium in meant to be an annual event, and this is the second time the CSCA is organizing it.

Even as MDA revenues were lower in the first quarter of the year, the company continues with its restructuring to position itself for future growth with a more diversified product base.

Canada Post has released the third stamp in a set of 10 that is being issued to mark Canada’s 150th birthday.  The stamp features the iconic Canadarm and was unveiled by Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen at at Glen Ames Senior Public School on April 28.

This past weekend Ottawa, Toronto and Kitchener-Waterloo hosted NASA’s Space Apps Challenge. For Ottawa, this was their first year, for all the cities, it was a chance to get students involved and excited about space. And for the first time, the Canadian Space Agency participated and made its presence felt, which is a good thing.

This morning Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen spoke to an almost full audience in Waterloo at the Space Apps Challenge. It was a perfect talk for a general audience and was moderated by James Slifierz, CEO of startup SkyWatch, organizer of the event.

They blew it. Plain and simple. The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) press conference yesterday was billed by the CSA as a funding announcement and the event included two senior cabinet ministers. So you would think the announcement would be more substantive. Unfortunately the hype didn’t meet expectations.  

In the recently announced budget the government had announced $80.9 million in new funding for the Canadian Space Agency over five years. We now know a little more about the projects the funds will go to.

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is getting involved with NASA’s annual Space Apps Challenge with a set of challenges of its own for this weekends event in Ottawa, Toronto and Waterloo.

The Canadian Space Commerce Association along with the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada which organized the Space 2.0 Roundtable at the Canadian Space Agency headquarters in February, has released a report from the event and one of the presentations.
