China has set a very ambitious launch schedule for 2018 announcing in early January it would try to conduct over 40 government and commercial launches.

The most satellites launched by China in one year was in 2016 when they managed 22 and included one failure and one partial failure.

For the first SpaceQ podcast of 2018 my guest is Andrew Jones, a journalist based in Finland who follows China’s space program. He writes for gbtimes.com, and has written guest blogs for the Planetary Society as well for SpaceNews.

Andrew and I discussed China’s program for 2018 including what the government has planned this year, the near term and long term. We also discuss the small but growing private commercial efforts ongoing in China since the government allowed companies to enter the sector.
